Russia, China to step up dialogue with India

New Delhi : Russia and China will step up dialogue with India to enhance regional cooperation among the three countries to create stability in the Asia-Pacific region, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

Issues relating the Russia-India-China (RIC) grouping figured in the talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Russian counterpart President Dmitry Medvedev.

They also discussed issues related to Brazil-Russia-India-China (BRIC) during the just concluded visit of the Russian leader, pti reported quoting Chinese Ministry officials.

The two leaders not only discussed issues related to RIC but it also figured in the joint statement issued at the end of the visit of Medvedev, yesterday.

‘The two sides (Russia and China) will continue to strengthen dialogue among China, Russia and India and will make joint efforts to create sound Asia-Pacific and international environments,’ the joint statement said.

‘Both countries are willing to make achievements out of cooperation among the three parties in various fields including disaster relief, agriculture and public health, deepen communication among academic, industrial and business circles as well as promote multilateral cooperation and democratic international relations,’ it said.

Last meeting of the RIC Foreign Ministers was held in Bangalore in October 2009 during which the three countries discussed a host of issues including issues relating to terrorism, climate change and reducing the impact of global recession.

About BRIC, the two sides emphasised that BRIC dialogue and cooperation is consistent with the common interest of emerging market economies and developing countries conducive to establishing a more harmonious new international regime on the basis of multilateralism and the democratic principle of global governance, the statement said.

‘The two sides decide to comprehensively advance pragmatic cooperation in various fields among the four countries in the spirit of progressive development, pragmatic innovation and open dialogue.

‘Russia welcomes China’s decision to hold the third official leaders meeting of the BRIC countries in 2011 and will provide China with active assistance,’ it said.
