Shah was killed in an explosion here Friday while he was entering a mosque to offer prayers.

A statement issued by the Ahlihadith headquarters Sunday evening termed the Maulana’s assassination “an attempt to wipe out the Ahlihadith school of thought from Kashmir”.

The organisation has sought the help of the state government, religious groups, civil society and political organisations to identify the killers of the religious leader.

“Whether the killers are outside or within us, we will not sit unless we unveil them,” acting Ahlihadith president Ghulam Rasool Malik said.

Malik said: “We urge people to have patience and not to resort to any such act which will affect peace. We want to give a message of peace not only to the people of Kashmir, but also to the entire world.

“During the last three days, we have given a practical proof of peace. There will be no street protests or further shutdown because of Maulana’s killing.”
