The internet and social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter have created a “new reality” that needs to be dealt with through transparency and credibility, Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim said.

He said public security, as a form of public service, needs to be constantly reviewed and improved to cope with rapid changes in technology.

“Social networking sites have added a new burden on security organisations. Therefore, security services should be offered in the best possible way. We should continuously evaluate performance of security organisations and seek to identify and share best practices,” he said.

The police chief was addressing a forum for policing practices that was attended by delegates from 15 countries, including Canada, Malaysia, Palestine, Iraq, Germany, Britain, Australia, Holland, Singapore, Hong Kong and New Zealand.
