Islamabad : At least 31 people were killed and 50 injured in a suicide bomb attack Thursday in northwest Pakistan, a media report said.
The bomber blew himself up among hundreds of people attending a funeral ceremony in the Lower Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Xinhua said quoting reports in the Pakistani media.
The attack occurred around 3 p.m. at the funeral of a pro-government local elder in a village in Jandol area, close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Many civil militiamen leaders were participating in the funeral and they were the target as they are leading the local people in the fight against militants, said the report.
All the injured people were shifted to a local hospital.
Hospital sources said that some of the injured people were still in critical condition.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack till Thursday evening.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani condemned the suicide blast.
