According to the police, the body of the lawyer, identified as Murlidhar belonging to Chomu town near here, was found from a well in the Muralipura area here early Wednesday morning.

“Muralidhar had a dispute with his tenant. Police cases had been registered from both sides. The Muralipura police had repeatedly summoned him to the police station where he was brutally beaten up several times over the past few days,” said Rajesh Sharma, an office bearer of the District Advocates Bar Association.

According to the police, Murlidhar seems to have committed suicide.

“Prima facie, it seems that he committed suicide. However, further investigations are going on,” said a senior police officer.

The advocates, alleging that Muralidhar was subjected to torture by police, gathered in front of the district collector’s office in the morning and blocked the road.

When police teams rushed to clear the blockade, the advocates clashed with them.

The lawyers demanded that a first information report (FIR) be registered against policemen allegedly involved in torturing the deceased lawyer and they be arrested.

The protest continued till Wednesday afternoon. Some vehicles belonging to the police were damaged by the agitating lawyers and roads were blocked near Rajasthan High Court, Station Road and Collectorate Circle leading to traffic jams.
