Pakistan: Zardari, Condoleezza discuss regional situation

Islamabad : US Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice on Thursday met President Asif Ali Zardari and discussed with him regional situation with particular reference to the situation arising after terror attacks in Mumbai.

During the talks at President House, Rice was accompanied by US Ambassador Anne W. Patterson and Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Richard Boucher.

President Zardari was assisted by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and senior officials.

Underlining the need for cooperation in investigation, Condoleezza Rice appreciated President Asif Ali Zardari’s public statements that the government of Pakistan will extend all cooperation in unearthing elements behind the terror attacks.

President Zardari welcomed Condoleezza Rice on her visit to Pakistan and reiterated that the government will not only assist in investigation, but also take action against any Pakistani element found involved in the attack.

Pakistan is determined to ensure that its territory is not used for any act of terrorism, the President said.
