In a statement, the spokesperson of the Pakistan High Commission here, said the Indians, who also include 25 Indian crew members, will be handed over to the Indian authorities at Wagah border Aug 24.

“This decision of the government of Pakistan of releasing Indian prisoners as a goodwill gesture is widely welcomed and appreciated by the members of civil society and media,” the statement said.

The move comes a day after Pakistan summoned Indian High Commissioner T.C.A Raghavan in Islamabad to protest the killing of a Pakistani soldier on the Line of Control and the “continued and unwarranted ceasefire violations” by the Indian army leading to deaths.

Ties between the two neighbours have taken a hit after the killing of five Indian soldiers on the LoC at Poonch by Pakistani troops earlier this month.
