Bush Admits Increasing Instability in Afghanistan

Washington : US President George W. Bush admitted Wednesday the worsening instability in Afghanistan as he recognized the increase in the number of US troops killed in that territory.

However, Bush commented that casualties of the Pentagon and its allies in that Asian nation respond to a bolder campaign of the troops against Iraqi insurgents.

June has been the most difficult month for the US troops in Afghanistan, but Bush told reporters in the White House that it was so too for the rebels.

At least 27 US soldiers were killed last month in that Islamic country, the most lethal period for occupation troops since the start of the US-led invasion in October 2001, according to military sources.

The US President, who gave a press conference on the next summit of the industrialized nations (G-8), reiterated that the number of soldiers deployed in Afghanistan will be increased by 2009.

When referring to the current world energy crisis, he said that in the United States, they will alleviate the shortage of fuel with more extraction of natural gas and petroleum in the nation.

We can do it in a responsible way and without contaminating the environment, he stated.

Bush defends the drilling of wells in the North American continental platform, facing Democratic opposition.

He added that the energy and foods crisis will be essential points of the agenda during the meeting of the eight most industrialized countries in Japan.
