South Korean hostage pleads for help in telephone interview
Seoul/Kabul : A South Korean woman taken hostage by extremist Taliban rebels in Afghanistan has pleaded for help from the South Korean government in a telephone interview published in Monday's JoongAng Ilbo newspaper.
"We are sorry to have caused this trouble. We want to get out of here as soon as possible," Lee Ji Young, 34, was quoted as saying.
"Don't worry too much about me," she also said in a message to her parents.

Iran Red Crescent donates 5,000 tents to Iraqi people

Tehran : Iran's Red Crescent Society (RCS) said 5,000 tents have been delivered to the Iraqi Red Crescent.
According to the RCS Public Relations Office report on Wednesday, the donation was carried by 12 trucks and entered into the Iraqi territory from Mehran border point.
Representatives from both Red Crescent Societies and also the coordinator of the World Red Cross Federation attended the delivering ceremony.

Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh) : Prominent Islamic clerics led by the Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid, Maulana Ahmed Bukhari, Thursday came out in support of madrassa teacher Mufti Abu Bashar, arrested for his alleged involvement in last month's serial bombings in Ahmedabad, and demanded the government stop "undue harassment of Muslims".
Joined by Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi, MP from Mumbai, Bukhari virtually sounded a bugle of revolt against what he termed the "anti-Muslim" policies of the Indian investigating agencies.

Practise religious tolerance, urges apex court
New Delhi : The Supreme Court Friday emphasised the need for religious tolerance in the country to preserve its diversity and unity.
The apex court delivered the ruling while approving of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) practice of keeping the city's slaughter houses closed for nine days every year during Paryushan ceremony of the Jain community and banning the sale of the meat in the city during those days.

In an interview with Al-Ahram daily published on Monday, the secretary general expressed his support for the call by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak regarding the restoration of unity in the Palestinian territories.
