Jammu : Suspected militants gunned down a teacher at a remote village of Ramban district in Jammu region, late on Sunday evening.
Official sources said that militants, believed to be of Hizbul Mujahideen, barged into the house of Abdullah, a teacher by profession, at Duniki (Sikli Top) on Sunday night and shot him dead
from a point blank range.
The gunmen dragged him out in the open and shot him dead after taking him barely fifty yards away from his house, sources told News Agency of Kashmir.

Kabul : One of the German hostages purportedly held by the Taliban was still alive, but a second hostage had died of a heart attack, the Afghan foreign ministry said Saturday.
In a day of fast-changing developments, a ministry spokesman said that Kabul authorities were working to secure the safe return of the hostage still alive.
"Our security agencies reported to us that one of the German engineers is still alive and the second died of heart attack and heat," ministry spokesman Sultan Ahmad Baheen told DPA.

Central Waqf Council gets Rs 290 lakh grant

New Delhi : Union Minister for Minority Affairs A.R. Antulay informed the Rajya Sabha Saturday that the government has increased yearly grant to Central Waqf Council from Rs 206 lakh in 2006-07 to Rs 290 lakh in 2007-08 in order to ensure smooth functioning of the waqf council.
In the financial year 2005-06 the grant to Central Waqf Council was Rs 145.25 lakh.
