Canada unearths scam: same guests at 42 Indian weddings

Toronto, May 17 (IANS) Canadian immigration officials have discovered 42 wedding albums - submitted by 42 different Indians applying for citizenship - in which the guests in the photos were identical. "You'd have to believe that 42 weddings had the same guests," said Mendel Green, president of Green and Spiegel, an immigration law firm. All the weddings had supposedly taken place at the same wedding venue in Chandigarh, India.

Indian woman threatens to hijack Malaysian carrier; detained

Kuala Lumpur, May 17 (DPA) An Indian woman was detained after she threatened to hijack a Malaysia Airlines flight during a domestic flight from Kuala Lumpur, a news report said Thursday. The 35-year-old woman boarded the plane late Wednesday with two children, aged one and three. In the middle of the one-hour flight, which was headed for the northern Penang state, the woman went to the cockpit and demanded to be let in, the Star daily quoted sources as saying. The suspect threatened to "take over the plane" but was later convinced to return to her seat by aircrew, it said.

Aziz directed the Interior Ministry and the Islamabad police to "make all-out efforts to immediately bring the culprit to book," a statement from his office said. Supreme Court Deputy Registrar Syed Hamid Raza was shot dead at his home Monday morning in what colleagues and relatives believe to be a target killing.

Militants admit plan to draw US to Saudi Arabia: reports

Riyadh, May 15 (DPA) Suspected militants being held in Saudi Arabia on charges of plotting terror attacks have told prosecutors their main aim had been to draw the US into Saudi territory, Saudi media reports said Tuesday. No madrassas in Jammu and Kashmir?

In a written reply, Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari said that, according to the state government, there were 86 private schools being run by the State Wakf Board. The highest number of madrassas is in Left-ruled Kerala and Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Madhya Pradesh with about 6,000 each followed by Uttar Pradesh (4,292) and Bihar (4,102).
