Srinagar : Markets remained over-crowded with shoppers and roads in this summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir were blocked with heavy traffic as Muslims started the first day of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan Tuesday.
Life in the Srinagar city and the rest of the valley was crippled during the last three weeks because of violent protests and the curfew imposed to restore law and order following the bitter agitation over the Amarnath land row and subsequent pro-separatist demonstrations.

Patna : Eighteen years after the Bhagalpur riots in which over 1,000 people were killed, the Bihar government is set to take action against the police and civil officials who had been indicted for their role in the riots.
After it reopened 28 cases related to the 1989 communal riots, the government has now decided to re-work cases against the guilty police and civil officials.

Teenager arrested for killing Sikh cabbie in US
Chicago : A teenager was charged with the murder of a Sikh cab driver whose burnt body was found early this month in Seattle.
Earnest Lennell Collins Jr., 18, was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder of Jagit Singh, 43. He was arrested Monday from Chicago.
Singh died after being shot twice in the head July 10. Singh was allegedly shot to death by Collins, who later torched the cab, according to court papers.
When fire fighters reached the spot, they found Singh dead in his cab.

Srinagar : Worried over the "well-being" of its leaders arrested earlier this week, separatist Hurriyat Conference Thursday said it was "surprised at the silence of Pakistan over Kashmir".
"We are seriously concerned about the well-being of our leaders arrested by the authorities here," said the joint coordination committee of the moderate and hardline factions of the Hurriyat conference in a statement issued here.
