Wasim Bareilwi gets first Firaq Gorakhpuri award

Agra : Noted Urdu poet Wasim Bareilwi, a regular feature at poetry soirees since the 1960S, has been given the first Firaq Gorakhpuri International Award here.

Bareilwi, considered the doyen of modern Urdu poetry, received the Rs.51,000 award and a citation from Minister of State for Home Shakeel Ahmed at an All India Mushaira late Sunday night.

Accepting the award, Bareilwi said: "It was a great honour bestowed on me in the city of Ghalib, Mir and Nazir. This award is an 'imtihaan' (test) for me."

Chandigarh’s Kala Gram to be modelled after Dilli Haat

By IANS, Chandigarh : New Delhi's Dilli Haat, a replica of a village marketplace where artisans display and sell their wares directly to customers, is going to be an inspiration for Chandigarh's Kala Gram that houses India's biggest sculpture park. "We are developing one part of the Kala Gram on the lines of Dilli Haat. We will construct around 70-80 shops. Indian literature to be translated into Arabic

By Aroonim Bhuyan, IANS Dubai : As part of its efforts to boost cultural diplomacy with the Gulf, India is planning a project to translate major Indian literary works into Arabic. "We propose to translate major Indian literary works - fiction, non-fiction and poetry - into Arabic as part of our larger vision to improve ties in the cultural area in the Gulf," India's Ambassador to the UAE Talmiz Ahmad told IANS. Around 20 to 50 Indian titles are being planned to be translated a year in the next couple of years.
