Washington : U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Friday that Iran has turned to be "increasingly dangerous," and refused to rule out military solution to Iran's nuclear disputes.
Speaking of Iran, Rice told CNBC that "this (Iran) is a very dangerous state with very dangerous policies and we need the help and support and intensify efforts of the international community to deal with Iran."

Islamabad : At least eight students of a girl seminary were killed when paramilitary forces opened fire on them in Islamabad on Tuesday, a spokesman for the seminary said.
A spokesman for Lal Masjid (red mosque) Abdul Qayyum said that the students were killed as the result of the firing from the security forces.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherapo said that one security man was also killed in firing from the students.
Fierce firing started when an armoured vehicle moved close to the mosque.

Jaipur (Rajasthan): Even as the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Jaipur on September 5 extended the police remand of Shahbaz Hussain, one of the main accused in the Jaipur bombing, Hussain’s arrest itself has raised many questions than it answered.
First, his arresting seems to be inspired by the arrest of Abu Bashar as main accused of Ahmedabad serial blasts. Hussain was arrested on August 25, a few days after Abu Basher was arrested from Azamgarh.

New Delhi : Professor Baseer Ahmad Khan joined Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) as Pro-Vice Chancellor here Monday.
Dr Khan has rendered his services as professor in the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Social Sciences of Jamia Hamdard. He was also Dean Students Welfare and Proctor of the university besides Head of the Faculty.
Former president of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Students Union, Dr Khan was also a lecturer in AMU for a brief period.

Bangkok : Thai police have arrested three Indian nationals on charges of holding an Indian garment exporter hostage for a 25 million baht (over $741,840) ransom, media reports said Friday.
Police rescued the hostage, Narendra Dev Pandey, 40, Wednesday from a house in Nonthaburi province, neighbouring Bangkok, shortly after detaining the gang that had kidnapped him.
Pandey, who suffered broken rids, was taken to Police General Hospital for treatment. He was kidnapped Sunday.

Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University, which was closed sine die following the murder of a student on September 16, 2007, is to reopen in phases starting from November 5. Vice-Chancellor P.K. Abdul Azis made an announcement to this effect in a high level meeting chaired by Union Minister for Human Resources Arjun Singh held here Tuesday.
Medical and Engineering Colleges of the University will be reopened in the first phase on November 5.

AMU to help link madrassas to mainstream education
Lucknow : In an attempt to open up mainstream higher education in India to madrassa students, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has decided to accredit several Islamic seminaries across the country.
"The move intends to provide better opportunities to madrassa students to pursue higher education," Rahat Abrar, an AMU spokesperson, told IANS on telephone from Aligarh.

Amman : The Royal Committee of Jerusalem Affairs has warned the Israeli authorities of implementing new projects in Jerusalem in the frame of its continued aggression against the city.
The committee stressed that these measures would not only hinder the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis, but with the Arabs and all the Muslims.
The Commission, in a press release published today by its Secretary General Abdullah Kan'an, called on the Israeli government to take immediate action to stop these projects if it wants peace.
