Islamabad : Over eighty people have been killed in a lightning in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP), state radio reported on Saturday.

The lightning hit three villages in upper Dir District of NWFP Friday night.

Nine houses in village Nash Namal, Gar Kohi and Jaba were washed away by the flood water caused by rains in the area, Radio Pakistan reported.

Relief and rescue teams have been sent to the affected area. So far 38 dead bodies have been recovered from the debris, the radio reported.

By Xinhua Baghdad : Iraqi troops have discovered the remains of some 17 bodies dumped in an area in the volatile province of Diyala, a source from provincial and Iraq liaison office said Wednesday. Iraqi police claim US air strike killed 16 people

By DPA Baghdad : At least 16 people were killed and 14 wounded when US forces conducted a pre-dawn air raid south of Tikrit, police sources said Tuesday. An air strike hit a house, 20 km south of the city, killing seven men, six women and three children, senior police officer Jassem Mohammed of the Salahaddin police department told DPA. The wounded were transferred to Tikrit Teaching Hospital. There was no immediate comment from the US military on the incident.

UN funds specialists to investigate mass Afghan graves

Kabul : The UN has invited forensic specialists from an international organisation to help investigate over 80 mass graves discovered in different parts of war-torn Afghanistan, officials told IRIN in Kabul.

On July 24 one specialist from Washington-based Physicians for Human Rights visited several mass graves to the north of Kabul. Another is expected to arrive in Kabul for an extensive technical investigation which hopes to shed light on the mass graves found in the country, a UN official said.

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court will Friday deliver its order on the review petition of Manindar Pal Singh Kohli, a Briton of Indian origin facing extradition to Britain on charges of raping and murdering British teenager Hannah Foster four years ago.

Reserving its order Thursday, a division bench of Justices Mukul Mudgal and P.K. Bhasin said the petition was filed to delay the extradition process and did not have any basis.

Bangladesh shifts militants to separate cells

By IANS Dhaka : Hardcore militants lodged in a Bangladesh jail were shifted to different cells Saturday following a high alert issued after the killing of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi. Twenty-six militants at Chittagong Central Jail in southern Bangladesh were moved to separate cells. They included five convicted militants belonging to the banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Star Online reported. Jailer Iqbal Hossain said the visitors have been asked not to bring any bags or packets for any inmates at the jail gate.
