‘Lashkar ready to shun arms if Kashmir resolved peacefully’

By IANS, Srinagar : The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group, blamed for the Nov 26 Mumbai attacks, has said it was ready to shun arms if the Kashmir issue was resolved peacefully. In a statement issued to the media here late Saturday, Abdullah Gaznavi, the spokesman of the outfit said: “If the world listens to our cries, and plays its role in resolving the Kashmir issue, there is no point continuing the fight." In an apparent reference to the Al Qaida terror network, the LeT spokesman said the group had no association or relationship with guerrilla groups operating globally.

Five held for molesting woman on train

By IANS, New Delhi: The Supreme Court Wednesday allowed the Muslim community to hold mass prayers twice a year in the Idgah Maidan in Hubli in Karnataka, but ruled out allowing the construction of any structure there by the community. A bench of Justice Dalveer Bhandari and Justice Mukundkam Sharma gave the ruling, upholding the June 1992 verdict of the Karnataka High Court. The high court, upholding the lower court's ruling, had said the Idgah Maidan was not the exclusive property of the Anjuman-e-Islam but belonged to what was by then the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation.

20 killed in Pakistan blast

By Xinhua Islamabad : At least 20 people were killed when a suicide bomber triggered a blast in a mosque in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province Friday. The blast occurred in a mosque near the village of former interior minister Aftab Sherpao who was attending the prayers with his family members, state-run television channel PTV reported Friday. Sherpao was offering prayers in the first row when the attacker triggered the bomb in the second row. Though Sherpao was unhurt as many as 20 people were killed in the attack and many injured.

By IANS, Pune: Explosive experts from the Indian Army Sunday reached Pune to help investigators probe the bombing at an eatery Saturday evening that killed nine people. The team from the Pune cantonment of the Southern Army command visited the site of the blast where police forensic experts collected samples and other evidence. Nearly 60 people were injured in the bombing at the German Bakery. It was the worst terror attack in India since the Mumbai mayhem of November 2008.

More than 600 bodies exhumed from mass grave in Bosnia

By DPA Sarajevo (Bosnia) : Bosnian forensic experts Thursday completed the excavation of a mass grave at Kamenica-9 location near the eastern Bosnian Serb town of Zvornik and disinterred some 600 bodies, the Commission on Missing Persons confirmed. The bodies, in different state of decay, were exhumed during the month-long operation, according to the commission. The victims were Bosnian Muslim men from Srebrenica. Bosnian Serb troops massacred up to 8,000 Muslim men after capturing the area July 11, 1995, during the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Aligarh Muslim University to run Islamic insurance course

By IANS, Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), which has decided to introduce a course in Islamic banking from the next academic session, will also offer separate courses in Islamic insurance and finance, a university official said Thursday. "The varsity intends to start these courses to cater to the ever increasing demand for trained personnel in Islamic insurance and finance sectors," AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar told IANS.
