Bangalore : A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, Ramesh Jigajinagi, Tuesday alleged that Dalits were being neglected and corruption was on the rise under the party's first Chief Minister in Karnataka B.S. Yeddyurappa.
Jigajinagi's attack on Yeddyurappa comes three days ahead of a 'Sadhana Samavesha' (convention on achievements) here to celebrate the party's two years in office.
A fourth-term member of the Lok Sabha, Jigajinagi said Dalits hadn't got proper representation in the Yeddyurappa ministry.

Mayawati vs Ram Vilas Paswan: A ding-dong battle for Dalit politics
By Soroor Ahmed, TwoCircles.net,
The decimation of Mayawati-led hitherto strong Bahujan Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh and the revival of the virtually defunct Dalit outfit of Bihar, Lok Janshakti Party, deserve an objective study. The former failed to open its account notwithstanding the fact that it managed to get about one-fifth votes of UP while fighting alone, whereas in Bihar the LJP won six seats when it got just 6.4 per cent votes. The only difference is that it contested in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Jitan Ram Manjhi: Will he succeed in his gamble?
By Soroor Ahmed, TwoCircles.net,
Though the outgoing Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi earned political martyrdom, yet it is debatable who inflicted more wounds on him. True, the last bullet was fired by his mentor-turned-tormentor Nitish Kumar, the injuries caused to him by the BJP in the first seven months of his nine-month regime proved no less fatal.

OBC quota in panchayats, civic agencies valid: Apex court
By IANS,
New Delhi: The Supreme Court Tuesday upheld the validity of the constitutional provision for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) reservation in panchayats and municipal agencies, including the post of a chairperson.
The chairperson's post could not be equated with solitary posts in the context of public employment, the court said.
However, the court said: "The upper ceiling of 50 percent vertical reservations in favour of Scheduled Castes (SCs), the Scheduled Tribes (STs) and OBCs should not be breached in the context of local self-government."
