Prominent Muslim scholar and columnist Maulana Asrarul Haque Qasmi won the Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat with a thick margin of 81,125 votes defeating RJD’s senior leader Md. Taslimuddin and JDU candidate Syed Mahmud Ashraf.
It should be noted that Maulana Qasmi had filed his nomination on the last day and had less time for campaigning but his social work and immense emotional public support led him to victory.

Ali Akbar, who along with his former brother-in-law Ravi Shankar took Indian classical music to the world stage, died at his residence in San Anselmo, in California, following renal failure. He was 87.
