Gujarat Today is the only newspaper run by a Muslim trust – Lokhit Prakashan Sarvajanik Trust. Tankarvi is a founder member of the trust and still continues to be its member even after he resigned from editorship a month ago to contest polls.

New Delhi, March 25 (IANS) Communist patriarch Jyoti Basu held a clandestine meeting with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani when the National Front was in power although publicly the Communists loathed the BJP, Advani says in his autobiography.
Advani has said in his "My Life, My Country" that the former West Bengal chief minister sought a meeting with him and Vajpayee because he felt that the multi-party National Front government led by V.P. Singh was not functioning well.
But Basu laid a pre-condition: the meeting had to be under cover.

Chandigarh: In the overwhelming saffron surge in the 90-member house, Haryana returned just three Muslim MLAs this election, result for which was announced on Sunday.
Naseem Ahmed (Indian National Lok Dal) beat Independent Mamman Khan to win the Ferozpur Jhirka seat by 3245 votes; at Nuh, Zakir Hussain (INLD) defeated nearest rival Aftab Ahmed of INC by 32796 votes and Rahish Khan, an independent candidate, won the Punahana seat by a margin of just 3141 votes over his nearest rival Mohammed Ilyas of the INLD.
