Along with this, its demographic map would have also undergone a major change giving a clear edge to the weaker sections and minorities in a much larger number of assembly and Parliamentary constituencies.

Biju, IANS, New Delhi : Late Communist leader Indrajit Gupta still remains unbeaten in the list of MPs with the longest Lok Sabha experience, having served the lower house for 11 terms, parliament records show. Gupta, who was elected to the second Lok Sabha in a bypoll in 1960 from West Bengal as a Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate, continued to be an MP till his death in 2001, with the exception of the sixth Lok Sabha period between 1977 and 1980.

By IANS, Ranchi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Shibu Soren Saturday staked claim to form the government in Jharkhand with support from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU). The Janata Dal-United also said it would support him. Soren, accompanied by his son Hemant, AJSU president Sudesh Mahto, BJP state chief Raghubar Das, former BJP president Rajnath Singh and former chief minister Arjun Munda, met Governor K. Chiranjeevi, whose party failed to make its mark in the elections, lost from Palacole in his native West Godavari district in coastal Andhra. He was defeated by B.
